Ballykealy House

Ballon (irl. Ballán) is a small vilage in County Carlow and this is where the Ballykealey House is located.

Ballykealey House is a 19th-century original Country House. The house once sat in an estate of 1,500 acres. It is interesting because of its artistic architectural.

It`s a gothic-style house designed by Thomas A. Cobden, the famous Irish architect, who also designed a number of other great houses in County Carlow including Duckett’s Grove. Ballykealey House is a three story Tudor revival house on a t-shape plan.

The house was the home of the Lecky family for three centuries. It was built between 1825 and 1835 for John James Lecky as a wedding gift.

The building has retained its architectural style to this day. It has never been rebuilt, and the facade of the building has remained exactly the same as in 1830. Stylized Gothic arches and Tudor chimneys create its unique character.

In the 1990s, the house was converted to use as a hotel, with an extension being added to accommodate this.

The building now houses a 4-star luxury hotel recommended by G. Campbell and McKenna, authors of the annual guide to noteworthy Irish restaurants and hotels, as the perfect venue for a wedding in Ireland.

The historic building, beautiful grounds that surround it, spacious hotel rooms, honeymoon suites are certainly the reasons for the high popularity of this place among young couples planning a wedding, therefore you must book a hotel for such a ceremony well in advance.

The hotel is popular not only among newlyweds, it is a good place for a relaxing weekend or corporate events.

There are wonderful gardens nearby, ideal for walks and picnics, and there are popular clubs and golf courses.
